Due to unfortunate circumstances, it seems like a whole bunch of us might be working in our pajamas this month. For some of us, this might be the norm. For others, this might be completely foreign.

For the past 8 months, I have been working remotely. I can’t tell you the number of times my productivity has been assaulted by the couch, Netflix, Instagram, group-chats, naps, and my dog.  It took me months of trial and error on my own to figure out how to be the most productive version of myself when working from my apartment.

Luckily for you, we have consolidated our learnings into this article! Here are 10 tips for crushing work at home from the Essentials squad.

Don’t skip the shower or fresh air!

Checking emails and dialing into conference calls with crazy bedhead? No problem. However, diving into work early can lead to late afternoon showers and fresh air just before sundown.

Do not make this mistake. Morning showers are therapeutic and centering AF.  his should be one of the first things you do. Next, make sure you step outside for a minute near the start of your day to get some air and appreciate the world around you.

NOTION for the win.

When it comes to staying on top of your personal and work tasks, Notion is where it's at. It’s helped me and team to stay on top of everything with incredible connectivity. The app is so easy to set up, cheap, and highly intuitive.

Don’t worry about a morning routine, worry about finding morning outlets.

Some people thrive with strict routines, others not so much. The type, amount, and timing of work changes daily for most people. That’s why it’s important to have a variety of different things that make you operate at your highest performing self! Here are my favorites for starting my remote workday…

-       Meditate with my morning coffee

-       Walks outside to the soothing sounds of Bob Marley or the “ESSENTIAL FOCUS playlist

-      Reading a book  (Recent favorite - How To Change Your Mind - Michael Pollen)

-       15-minute YouTube stretching tutorials

-       Workout

A clean space and apartment go a long way

Keurig, Keurig, and Keurig

LIFESAVER. I mean financially, this is a no brainer for those who spend $10 a day on lattes. If you wanna make it fancy, Laird Hamilton’s Superfood Turmeric coffee creamer is incredible and gives you some healthy fats to stimulate your brain.

A screen monitor saved my life

Wow. Wow. Wow. Investing in a screen monitor gave me the biggest boost of productivity I have ever experienced by a long shot. Oh, you’re the person with 37 tabs open right now? Those days are over hun. We are all-natural multi-taskers and having extra screen space allows you to keep all your tabs up without losing focus. And If you really want to get crazy a standing desk is fire.

Move your body when the creative juices are lacking

We all hit walls hereafter long strides. When that happens, get up and move your body.

Delete your social media apps and re-download when you’re ready

Falling into the traps happens to the best of us. Those who can’t resist, I have found that just deleting the app helps a ton. Having to re-download and sign back in creates the perfect protection from aimless scrolling.

Through the global chaos, we hope you all fall into a comfortable remote working habit that works for you. The benefits are obvious, more time with loved ones and more flexibility to take care of the essentials that matter most in life. Happy remote working everyone.
